One of the last Great Independent Coffee Houses. This coffee house is the last of the great independent coffee houses. They have awesome coffee, food, service- The Barista's are the best and most friendly. The place is huge and each room has a different unique feel. It is like a second home - you can come and spend a day and want to come back for more. They have remodeled their bathrooms recently - addressing a comment on a previous review. Strongly suggest coming by and enjoying yourself - be prepared to stay a while.
These people know their coffee A++++++ Best atmosphere, Best Service, Best of everything.
I love this place! The building is old, and so it has its quirks and challenges, but it only adds to the character of the entire establishment. When i walked in, i was immediately served by the nicest girl who really knew her stuff. She was very knowledgeable and recommended something i had never tried, but really liked. i sat down with my laptop and was in my own little world in this place. I found it to be very clean. I read the other post about restrooms, but i didnt find the restrooms to be unclean at all? I thought they were very clean.
Common Grounds has several rooms so it is a great place to get away if you want, or it has a great open area if you want to hang out and see people. I love open mic night and other music they have, its just a real neat place to be. Whenever you walk in you just feel comfortable and relaxed, warm and welcome and the service is unbeatable. The people that work their know their stuff and seem to really enjoy what they do, and they don't seem to have alot of turnover. Makes a difference.
New coffee shops come and go, and they might have fancy new buildings and trends, but you can't beat this classic. It's got ALL the right stuff.
A great independent coffee shop - If they'd clean their bathrooms.
I've been coming here for ~15 years now. It's had many owners but has generally stayed the same, expanding internally to accomodate more people. The "smoking" room got moved around until it dissapeared entirely and the menu has changed along with the ownership. I haven't lived in Lexington the whole time but when I'm in town I often come here - despite the recent virus of 'Bucks opening all over town.
The main beef I have with this place, and it's a big one - the bathrooms are UNACCEPTABLE. How could they care so little about the appearance, cleanliness and smell??? I can't speak for the womens' side, but the mens' belongs in a truck stop. This leads me to question whether the ownership/management really gives a damn. Sure, nobody wants to clean the bathrooms but it has to be done. People notice.
A better alternative for downtown coffee is 3rd St. Stuff on Limestone/3rd. THAT's ownership that cares. Both places also have free internet.
