Overpriced.

by dancingoutlaw

I tend to forget how overpriced this place is until I'm in a jam and need a quick haircut. This happens now and then when life gets a little hectic and I forget to schedule an appointment (at my regular salon with my regular stylist). It's relatively convenient to where I live, and Planet Salon has been moving or redecorating or what-have-you in the past year or so. So Hair & Now. In the seven to eight years I've been a spur-of-the-moment customer, I've never left pleased. The atmosphere promises a nice cut--and I certainly don't mind paying for a nice cut--however, I always end up thinking I would have been better off going to Supercuts. Each stylist has been friendly enough and engaged in conversation, but I wonder if perhaps there should be less talking so that more attention can be paid to the actual cut. Or maybe a little more time in beauty school...Unfortunately during my most recent visit, after being overcharged so many times for a shampoo, cut and style or even a cut and style; I asked for a simple trim (no shampoo, no styling, only a slight trim). I was met with a much less enthusiastic expression. Even though the place was empty, this gal went from extremely friendly to *snip, snip, snip, get this one out of the store* service. Again, I was overcharged for less than stellar service. My no shampoo, no style *trim* ran me thirty dollars--and I didn't even get the half-hearted conversation to go with it. I won't be going back.

  • Pros: Clean, convenient location
  • Cons: Bad cuts at high prices

Ridiculously Expensive

by star18

I went here as a member of a wedding party. We all had hair appointments made for the morning of the wedding to get "up-do's" Be sure to ask what your service will cost before making appointments. A typical updo will cost you $75 dollars plus tip, and that is without even a shampoo. With a shampoo, we were told the "up-do" price would be $130. A basic shampoo and blowdry style was $45. This is WITHOUT a cut or color; just a shampoo and blowdry.

Overall I was not impressed with the place, beyond their fancy spa style massage chairs while you are getting your hair shampooed at the sink. But if you ask me, I'd rather shampoo my hair and blowdry it at home, to save $45 bucks. This is Lexington, not New York City.

My main advice at this salon, is know what you are getting into, and how much they charge, especially if you are only going there to get your hair styled, and not cut or colored.

It's way too expensive for what they do, and there are plenty of nice other salons in town, with more reasonable prices.

  • Pros: nice upscale atmosphere
  • Cons: ridiculously expensive
