"Legendary" and Awesome.
I am not from Lexington but moved here a few years ago. I found The Rusty Scabbard and It had everything I was looking for and many things I did not know of. All of my RPG needs meet. The few times they were out of something they got it for me ASAP.
Even were willing to look for out of print Items. AND they are not some cookie cutter fly by night store the been around since the 80's
The only bad thing I can say is that sometime my RPG game night (at the store) is booted for an events sponsored by the store. But only a ingrate would complain, the tables are free and you can reserve them.
PRO: THEY ARE AWESOME
CON: does not sell video games
SUPPORT YOU LOCAL STORES AND BUSSNESSES
Worked in a pinch but I hope to never go back.
My son wanted a game mat for his D&D game. I saw these mats online at Amazon for around $13, but I needed it for a gift in two days and didn't want to pay express shipping. So I called Rusty Scabbard to see if they had them in stock. They did, so I made the drive to Lexington.
Upon arriving, I identified myself as the person who had called a little earlier about the game mats, and asked where the game mat area was. The sales girl reluctantly got up from her seat to take us over to them. I also asked if they had a restroom. She gave me an odd look and then said it was broken. Were it not for the fact that I needed the mat for a gift I would have refused to purchase anything there to show my gratitude for her answer. As it was, I ended up paying nearly double Amazon's asking price (I probably could have paid for overnight shipping and still paid less than Rusty Scabbard's price).
I will chalk this up as an expensive lesson in trying to help this local business, and I hope I never have reason to step foot in that store again. I will either find a local store who actually appreciates its customers or order from online retailers.
Great place for service and products.
I've shopped at the Scabbard for a few years whenever I need RPG products. Whether it be a D&D book, tiles or miniatures they're always friendly and knowledgable about the products they sell.
I've only been to a couple of events that have been held there, but the owners and staff are always friendly and willing to help us out, let us use dice, pens or whatever we need that they happen to have on hand.
Great place, great staff.
Go Somewere else. This place is nasty, dirty, the prices are outrageous, the staff doesnt even know anything about the things they sell. The staff is also rude & doesnt reserve tables for you properly. After about 6 months of putting up with our tables that we would play at the same time every week being given away without an apology, we stoped going here.
