Only Stand-Up Focused Venue in Lexington.... There are some improvements that could be made to COB, and if there were other comedy clubs in Lexington my rating might be a 3 instead of a 4. But overall Comedy Off Broadway is a great little place. It's better than several I've been to in other cities near and far. I can certainly appreciate the fact COB could slack knowing they have the market cornered when it comes to watching stand-up in a club setting; that even though the only other place to see *real* comedians is Singletary Center (though hopefully KY Theater and The Lyric will continue to add more stand-up as time moves forward--had great times at both places) the powers that be at COB don't seem to do anything but try to bring in the best acts possible. I applaud COB for this. I love live comedy and have a great time at Comedy Off Broadway. Yeah, if there are only two in your party you have to sit with strangers, and we've been stuck with "that guy" a time or two. That's okay. It's fun and worth the price of admission and a few drinks. It would be even *more* worth it if, as someone mentioned, both the clips and Scott Wilson's act were updated. I know we're not there specifically to see either, but come on. Prep us a little. We have a good sense of humor and don't ask for much! But the comedians are always funny, the drinks are usually strong and I nearly always enjoy the atmosphere, though if you go on a night when a majority of the crowd come from surrounding areas or you get the wrong local crowd it can be kind of a bummer. What I mean is I've gone a couple of times when the comedian was fantastic but the crowd was kind of dead/a downer and it was strange. Can't let that ruin the night, but it's definitely a crap shoot when you book your tickets. One other thing to COB owners: Get on Twitter and Facebook! I don't know what the current aversion is to either, but I promise when you come into the light you'll be glad you did.
Usually great comedians. they do a great job of hiring top notch comedians. I've enjoyed all of them to some degree in the 5 or 6 times I've been. that makes it all worth it. however, the house comedian emcee Scott Wilson is sooooo unfunny and tells the same jokes every single time. he needs to go. and they show the same clips before shows and it is cramped but that said you will laugh.
won't go back. i have been to COB many times, but last night will be my last. I have never been so embaressed and humiliated by a manager of an establishment in my life. apparently you are not allowed to laugh about stuff with your friends you're sitting with. The manager came to our table and said we were being to loud. The funny thing is the people in front of us said the manager was the one who disrupted them and took the attention off the comedian. It's a shame b/c I have friends that work there and also friends that perform there. I will be sure to let everyone know not to go there. Our table payed $110 just for tickets.....more plus drinks and shots for us to stay for 20 minutes! Thanks Comedy off Broadway for introducing me to Bar Louie next door!!!! That's where I'll be from now on when I go to Lexington Green!
