Tips for Merrick Place

September 25, 2012

My husband and I have been renting a townhome at Merrick for the past 2 years. When we first inquired about a lease my husband had already lived there for several years with a roommate. He had had a good experience so we were fairly certain we wanted to stay there. Talking to the office staff about renting a townhome was an absolute nightmare. I was quoted three different prices by three different people for the same apartment. When we finally reached a price I told the staff multiple times that we had dogs. I never saw the pet fee show up on our lease so I have no idea whether we even paid it or not, but at this point I was so frustrated I never brought it up.

On the day we took possession of the apartment we went to check it out, only to find the carpet had not been replaced and the walls were unpainted. We had to wait several additional days to move in because they had to have workmen in re-carpeting and repainting.

After we moved in our dogs were attacked three separate times by three separate dogs, all owned by tenants at Merrick and all unleashed. We complained numerous times, but nothing was ever done. Our neighbors dog barks constantly and it is impossible to leave your windows open because you all you hear is the high pitched bark.

We lived near the restaurant and could never find a place to park. When I complained to the valets at Merrick Inn I was told that they were allowed to park cars in resident parking and that this was approved by the office staff.

While living at Merrick our apartment was overrun with centipedes, mold and persistent heating and cooling issues. The carpet is dingy and cheap and the inside needs a big renovation. There are large ceilings in the downstairs that make heating and cooling a big pain. Our heating bills were usually in excess of $150 dollars a month and we don't keep the heat high at all.

Lighting around the property is spotty. Some areas are very dark and it is difficult to see at night. It is also incredibly noisy near the restaurant.

The office staff is completely clueless and incompetent .A friend of mine threw a shower for me at the clubhouse while we were living at Merrick and the office staff gave a tour through the middle of the shower while it was going on! They also asked my friend's mother if the tour could have some of our food!

The one good thing I can say about the place is that the maintenance staff is wonderful. They respond to all requests the same day and are very friendly and efficient. It is in no way enough for me to recommend the place though. There are many other apartments in Lexington that are much nicer and comparable in price.

Very Good Food, Old Kentucky Charm. The Merrick Inn is a delightful place for a relaxing dinner. My wife and I have dined here a few times and have never been diappointed. The food is well prepared, the atmosphere is charming, the service very good, but the drinks are watered. (Twice we've ordered martinis that came from the bar tasting more of ice and water than the Belvedere Vodka we had ordered.)

For a less expensive and (perhaps even more) enjoyable dinner, the Merrick patio in summer/autumn is delighful. The menu is different, but the prices are lower and the food is just as good.
